Dr. Jose Leon was born and raised in Lima, Peru, where he began his medical training at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, earning his medical degree. He continued his postgraduate education in the United States, completing an internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Montgomery. Dr. Leon later pursued advanced training in rheumatology through a fellowship at Louisiana State University.
With many years of experience practicing hospital medicine in Alabama, Dr. Leon brings a depth of clinical expertise and a thoughtful, comprehensive approach to the care of patients with rheumatologic and autoimmune conditions. He is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and values building long-term relationships with those he serves. Dr. Leon is proud to be an active part of the Auburn–Opelika community and is dedicated to meeting the healthcare needs of the region.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Leon enjoys spending time with his wife, Kayla, and their four children. His personal interests include traveling, playing and watching soccer, swimming, cooking, and working through challenging puzzles.

Dr. Zarmeena Ali earned her medical degree from The Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Connecticut, serving as Chief Resident, and went on to complete her Rheumatology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. She is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.
Dr. Ali has over 20 years of experience in clinical practice and has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi, where she helped establish rheumatology services during the hospital’s launch, and the John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis, where she led inpatient care and quality initiatives. She currently provides comprehensive rheumatologic care in East Alabama, with a focus on evidence-based, individualized treatment.
Dr. Ali is dedicated to mentorship and education, working closely with students and trainees at multiple levels. She is known for her thorough, thoughtful approach and her commitment to improving patient outcomes.

Lynn Back began her career in medicine as a medical assistant before attending nursing school at Darton College Military Division, where she earned her associate degree in nursing. She furthered her education by completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Albany State University. Throughout her nursing career, Lynn gained valuable experience in various specialties, including rheumatology, nephrology, orthopedics, and post-anesthesia care which allowed her to have a truly holistic approach to her care style.
Lynn achieved the title of Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner after earning her master’s degree from Georgetown University. She is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American College of Rheumatology.
Outside of her professional role, Lynn enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband, Josh, and their son, Carson. As a family, they enjoy time on the water, fishing, traveling, and visiting Disney.
